UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination Age Limit

Age (As On 01 January, 2024)

he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd January, 1992 and not later than 1st January 2003.

Minimum Age– 18 Years

Maximum Age– 32 Years

For Scientist ‘B’(Hydrogeology) Group ‘A’, Scientist ‘B’(Chemical) Group ‘A’ and Scientist ‘B’(Geophysics) Group ‘A’ in Centra l Ground water Board, Ministry of Water Resources : -

Must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained at the age of 32 years on 1st January, 2024 i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than 2n d January 1992 and not later than 1s tJanuary 2003. NB: Candidates should ensure that they meet the age eligibility criteria for each post mentioned above for which they are applying

Education Qualification— Master’s degree in Geological Science or Geology or Applied Geology or Geo- Exploration or Mineral Exploration or Engineering Geology or Marine Geology or Earth Science and Resource Management or Oceanography and Coastal Areas Studies or Petroleum Geosciences or Geochemistry from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or an educational institution established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed university under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 (3 of 1956) i.e. recognized University.

Name of Post— Geophysicist Group ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India and Scientist ‘B’ (Geophysics) Group ‘A’ in C.G.W.B.

Sc. in Chemistry or Applied Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry from a University incorporated by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature or other educational Institutes established by an Act of the Parliament or declared to be deemed Universities under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 i.e. recognized University.

Name of Post— Scientist ‘B’ (Hydrogeology) Group ‘A’ in C.G.W.B.

Education Qualification— Master’s degree in Geology or applied Geology or Marine Geology or Hydrogeology from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational Institutes established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as Universities under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.

N o t e 1: Master's degree in respective discipline means the postgraduate degree or postgraduate diploma of minimum two years duration after graduation from aforesaid University or Institute in the respective discipline, whether be it an integrated course or otherwise.

N o t e 2: A can di dat e who h as appe ared at an examination, the passing of which would r ender him/her educati onally qualified for this Examination but has not been informed of the result, may apply for admission to the Examination . A candidate who intends to appear at such a qualifying examination may also apply. Such candidates will be admitted to the Examination, if otherwise eligible but their admission would be deemed to be provisional and subject to cancellation if they do not produce proof of having passed there quisite qualifying examination along with the Detailed Application Form which will be required to be submitted by the candidates who qualify on the result of the Main Examination. Such proof of passing the requisite examination should have been issued latest by the closing date of Detailed Application Form of the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination, 2024, which will be required to be filled up by them who are declared qualified for the Stage-III of the Examination i.e. Personality Test/Interview.

Note 3: A candidate who is otherwise qualified but who possesses the Master's degree from a foreign University approved by the Government may also be admitted to the Examination by the Commission.

No t e 4: Candidate possessing common qualifications in sub-para (i) can apply for both the posts.

NOTE 5: In exceptional cases the Commission may treat a candidate who does not possess any of the qualifications prescribed in this rule, as educationally qualified provided that he/she has passed examinations conducted by other institutions, the standard of which in the opinion of the Commission, justifies his/ her admission to the Examination.

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination Selection Process

The Combined Geo-Scientist Examination will consist of three successive stages:-

Stage-I : Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Examination (Objective type) having two papers for selection of the candidates for the Combined Geo-Scientist (Main) Examination. Marks secured in the Preliminary Examination will be counted for deciding the final merit;

Stage-II : Combined Geo-Scientist (Main) Examination (Descriptive Type) having three papers for selection of candidates for the Personality Test (Stage-III). Marks secured in the Main Examination will be counted for deciding the final merit; and Stage-III: Personality Test/Interview Applications are now invited for the Preliminary Examination only. Candidates who will be declared by the Commission to have qualified in the Preliminary Examination will be allowed to take the Combined GeoScientist (Main) Examination. The Main Examination will be held on 22nd June, 2024. The Main Examination will be held on the following Centres : Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Dispur (Guwahati), Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Shimla.
